Recognise Abuse
Abuse can be:
• Physical – hitting, pushing, neglecting care needs
• Sexual – assault, exploitation, grooming
• Emotional – bullying, intimidation, threats
• Financial – theft, exploitation
• Neglect – not meeting basic needs
• Discriminatory – racism, sexism, disability-related harassment

If You Have a Concern
1. Listen – stay calm, take the concern seriously.
2. Reassure – thank them for speaking up, never blame them.
3. Do not promise secrecy – explain you must share this to keep them safe.
4. Report immediately to the Nominated Safeguarding Lead (NSL).
5. Record – write down what happened as soon as possible (within 48 hrs).
