This category is open to communities including independent living homes in Dunstable who have come together to create a community floral display, a shared access community garden or a communal growing space. This category has been sponsored by The Quadrant Shopping Centre.
Community gardening is a growing trend which encourages people to come together for the good of the community, for social interaction and tackling loneliness and for sharing knowledge and experience.
Judges will be looking for:
- Imaginative and innovative projects that support the current year’s theme.
- Use of plants and wildflowers that attract pollinating insects.
- A good range of plants, flowers, vegetables and fruit which are well arranged and well designed.
- Recycled and innovative use of baskets and containers.
- Weed free beds and borders.
- Litter free and well swept hard surfaces and high standards of cleanliness.
- Plants and borders free from pests and diseases.
- Evidence of a wide range of community participation and volunteering.
- Evidence of fundraising and support from businesses and other organisations.
- Good promotion and media coverage to encourage the community to come along and help out.
- Social gatherings and celebrations.
